| 50 million people made homeless by 'natural' disasters. What rights have the internally displaced? |
At least 26 million people across the world are displaced within their own countries because of armed conflict. Another 50 million have been made homeless by natural disasters. | Oxfam report: Countries abusing human rights by failing to fight global warming |
Rich countries are violating the human rights of millions of the world's poorest people by failing to tackle global warming, says the report "Climate wrongs and human rights: Putting people at the heart of climate-change policy". Greenhouse gas emissions primarily produced by industrialized nations are creating floods, droughts, hurricanes, rising sea levels and seasonal unpredictability. Oxfam pushes for countries to be held legally accountable for the devastating effects of more frequent and severe climatic events on people around the world. People's homes are being destroyed, clean water becomes increasingly scarce and harvests are being ruined, violating the rights of millions of the world's poorest to life, security, food, water, health, shelter, and culture.
